Stella Maris – the most beautiful place in Cape Verde?
Peaceful Maio
Maio is a peaceful, quiet island, in contrast to the popular tourist islands such as Sal and Boa Vista. However, if it is peace and tranquility that you are after, Maio is the place for you. It is also one of the friendliest of the nine inhabited islands. The beaches are magnificent.
The main town is Vila do Maio (also known as Porto Inglês). It occupies a sloping site with streets running down to the beach. The town square is dominated by the Portuguese colonial style church. A tour of the island is a must. It will include the villages of Calheta, Morro and Dom Joao, as well as the sand dunes a Morrinho
Maio is just a 15 minute flight from the capital city of Praia on the island of Santiago. There are also ferries between Praia and Maio. It is a little more difficult to get to but it is well worth the effort. Everyone that visits Maio loves it.
Villa and apartments
Stella Maris is a gated community in Vila do Maio (Porto Inglês) on the lovely island of Maio. Within the Stella Maris village there are a variety of villas and apartments. There is accommodation of varying sizes from studios (T0) to one bedroom apartments (T1) and larger two bedroom apartments and villas (T2).
There is a lovely infinity swimming pool for the use of residents. The pool includes a small children’s paddling pool. The pool offers views over the ocean towards the neighbouring island of Santiago.
Stella Maris has direct access down steps to a small beach. The main beach in the town is only a few minutes walk in one direct and the long Ponta Preta beach about 10 minutes walk the in the other direction.
Close to the Stella Maris village there are two supermarkets and the fruit and vegetable market is only about five minutes walk away. The town has a variety of bars and restaurants.
