Cabo Verde, the freest country in Africa

The Washington (USA) based research organisation Freedom House has just published its latest edition of “Freedom of the World’. This report concentrates on the rights, both political and civil, of citizens. The report has concluded that the country of Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) has “stable democracy with competitive elections and periodic transfers of power between rival parties” and that civil liberties are generally protected. Cabo Verde was therefore considered to be the freest country in Africa. The other country near the top of the list was São Tomé and Príncipe. However, Cabo Verde was at the top of the list.
