There have been reliability issues with the domestic flights within Cape Verde for some time. Over the past few years the flights have been operated by a succession of different airlines. However, flights are regularly cancelled or delayed making life extremely difficult for both residents and tourists. Currently, the problem is that there are no flight schedules published beyond the end of October this year.

However, the government has now announced that a new domestic flight company has been formed. The government intends that this will guarantee inter-island flights. The statement says that the new company has been formed “to ensure the stability of inter-island air transport, with regularity, punctuality, continuity and quality”. Residents, businesses and tourists alike will welcome this development if this proves to be the result. The new company was formed on 6 September 2024 and is wholly state owned. The announcement says that it will be ‘under the designation Cabo Verde Airlines’. It can now only be hoped that the schedules for the next few months are published urgently so that people can arrange their travel.
