The Cape Verde football team (The Blue Sharks) have beaten Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) 3-0 at home. The match took place in the city of Praia on the island of Santiago. This means that Cape Verde has reached the World Cup finals in 2026 by attaining the top spot in their qualifying group (Group D). This is a great achievement for the team from this small country. They are the second-smallest country to get to the finals. The Cape Verde team is the sixth one from Africa to reach the finals, which will be held in the americas (USA, Mexico and Canada).

Cape Verde has a population of less than 525,000 and first tried to reach the World Cup in 2002.
