Christmas in Cape Verde 2025

Autumn has arrived and winter is not so far away. Have you considered spending Christmas 2025 in the sun in Cape Verde?

The weather in December is lovely. There is an average high temperature of about 28ºC and the average minimum is around 22ºC. there will normally be very little, if any rain and certainly no snow. So leaving behind the cold weather in Europe is very inviting. There will be some wind, but actually that is welcome when the temperature is high. Also it is good for the various forms of surfing that are on offer. These lovely warm temperatures are only about five or six hours away from most of Europe.

Music and dancing are popular and you will find plenty of places where you can join in. Times of celebration such as Christmas and New Year offer even more opportunities. The music of Cape Verde is rhythmical and catchy. There will also be firework displays at both Christmas and New Year. Hotels and some restaurants lay on a special dinner. People will invite you to try local drinks such as Grogue or Ponche (or Pontche). Both of which contain rum. Grogue is also the main ingredient of the Caipirinha cocktail, which is a popular refreshing drink.

Cape Verde is a predominantly Catholic country and so a Christmas Eve Mass is held. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are public holidays, so the shops may be closed.

Direct flights to the islands of Sal and Boa Vista are possible from many European countries. More details on these flights are available on these Sal and Boa Vista pages. There are also flights from Lisbon to the capital city, Praia (on Santiago), which is ideal for visiting Maio. Additionally Praia is served by flights from Casablanca. This year there are more low-cost flights too, with airlines such as EasyJet and Transavia. There is information on travel for each of the nine islands on these relevant island pages. So why not enjoy a sunny, warm and relaxing Christmas in Cape Verde? It is peak season and so now is a good time to plan your Christmas holiday.
