The popularity of Cape Verde can be measured by the number of flights to this lovely country. We regularly hear about new routes, or that new routes are being considered. Recently the Chief Executive Jet2.com, the low cost UK airline, has discussed the possibility of exploring longer routes. Currently, the airline’s longest flights are from the UK to Morocco and Cyprus. At a recent conference the Chief Executive suggested that flights to Cape Verde might be a possibility. If this happens this would be the second low-cost airline to connect the UK with Cape Verde. EasyJet recently started flights from London Gatwick. It would be great to have more direct routes from the UK, so let’s hope Jet2 adds Cape Verde to its destinations. Until EasyJet started flights from Gatwick, the only direct option was to fly with TUI. The alternatives from the UK being to fly via Lisbon or Casablanca. Direct flights to Praia would also be a boost to tourism in Cape Verde and maybe one day these will start. This would be a particular benefit for people visiting Maio.

It is now also possible to fly from another French airport to Sal. Transavia are commencing flights from Lyon to Sal on 15 December. This means that this airline now has direct flights to Sal from Paris Orly, Marseille and Lyon. It also flies from Paris Orly to Boa Vista, Praia (Santiago) and São Vicente.
