Maio is one of the least visited of the Cape Verde islands. The beaches are beautiful and the people are friendly. It is a lovely place to visit for that ‘get away from it all’ vacation. The island has not been spoilt by large scale tourism. People visit the island because it is peaceful and relaxing. We have now heard about a new Maio surf school on the island.

This new school, ‘Onda Azul’ (Blue Wave), provides surfing lessons for beginners as well as more experienced surfers. They also cater for children and adults. This new venture has been started by a local resident. It hopes to encourage tourism on the island and also provide local youngsters with a connection to the sea. This Maio surf school is located in the little village of Morro on the west coast of the island about 5km from the main town of Vila do Maio (also known as Porto Inglês).
