Maio is one of the least visited of the Cape Verdean islands. There are not lots of large restaurants like there are on Sal for example. However, the food you will find is excellent. One of the favourites among locals and visitors is Chacha’s on a small side street. This is street food Maio style. Chacha barbecues chicken, fish and sometimes meat. She serves it straight from the barbecue together with vegetables. You will sit on the street and occasionally you may need to move slightly if a car needs to get past.
